Personally, I'm a big bean fan (as would befit someone with my username.) His thinking is a lot more impressive and I find you sympathize with his charachter more. No question. C'mon how can you not love the little legume? Nat

For me, Ender was sort of too perfect, so I couldn't really connect to him as a character. I mean, sure, he was a guilt-wracked and everything, but WE know he never did anything bad on purpose, and besides, he had this magical gift for being loved by everyone he meets. What were Ender's flaws? He was too sensitive, too nice, etc. Those SO don't count. Bean, on the other had, seems like a much more real person to me. He made good choices and bad ones, and as a reader, because he felt so much more imperfect, I could empathize with him so much more.

Strangely enough, thats what I think about Bean. What bugged me in his first book was how he somehow knew everything. I think it's even written somewhere in the books that he knows things without knowing he knows them. It sounds like he's really just acting on base instinct and it's trying to be passed off as some sort of great intelligence that borders on clairvoyance. To me, that just sort of said lazy writing. After that though, the series got better with the political intrigue and war and such.
